On Saturday, June 6, several members of the Chapter held a fly casting demonstration at the celebration of the reopening of Waverly Park and National Trails Day. Steve Darnell headed this endeavor and was assisted by Bob Coffman, Ron Johnson, Larry Lewis and Walt Anderson. Based on comments received from Metro Parks personnel, we provided a very positive contribution to this event, for which they were very grateful. All had a good time and are looking forward to possible future work with Metro Parks on the Fishing in Neighborhoods (FINS) program.
But we must add a short story to this. Upon learning that we were going to be at the park opening, one enthusiastic family went out and purchased a fly rod with reel, line, etc. at their son's request. The son even did some practice casting before coming to the park. The mom shared that it took the dad several hours to get all the fishing line out of the ceiling fan because the son decided to practice in the house. Oops! Sorry about that Dad. The son had a great time and we enjoyed helping him out.
